October Storm 09 : These shots are from the unusually severe October snow storm that dumped about 25" of the white stuff in my area. I decided to take advantage of the situation and went out afterwards to get a few photos. With the exception of the train photo, which was shot using my Lumix point and shoot, all pictures were captured using a Nikon D80 DSLR and a lensbaby 2.0 with an f4.0 aperture disk. Shutter speeds ranged from 1/1600 to 1/4000 of a second. Post processing was accomplished using Capture NX2.

Bristlecone Pine Series 1, Mount Goliath : Bristlecone Pines are among the oldest living organisms on earth and some of the most beautiful trees I've seen. Here in Colorado there are some that are 1500 years old; in California lives Methuselah, a bristlecone pine that's more the 4400 years old. Their rugged beauty comes from the ability to survive in extremely harsh conditions - dry, thin atmosphere, relentless winds and frigid winters. Parts of the tree can die during a typical lifespan giving more nourishment to the healthier areas of the tree, thus extending its life.

This is part of an ongoing project for me which will include views in fall, winter and spring and hopefully a trip or two to California and other locations where the bristlecone grows.

Courage Classic 2009 : The Courage Classic for 2009 took place from July 25 - 27 with a route that formed roughly a triangle from Leadville, CO to Vail, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, Frisco and back to Leadville. The base route was 157 miles with options to go shorter or longer. The weather was spectacular during the three days, except for those riders who opted for the Century ride on Sunday - I guess they got drenched. Outside of a bit of confusion when I first arrived in Leadville, the event was very well organized and the ride itself took in some spectacular scenery as you can see from this sampling of shots I took.

Maroon Bells : These are from a quick weekend trip to Glenwood Springs over the 4th of July. One or two shots are decent, but for the most part if these photos were fish I'd throw them back!

Bikerpelli 2006 : Bikerpelli was my first multi-day tour and it turns out I chose one of the most difficult. 140+ miles in three days on a mountain bike over technical terrain. What was I thinking! Hardest ride I've ever attempted. Got pretty dehydrated the second day and ended up riding a shorter route (Onion Creek Road) on the third day. Still, the feeling of being so remote was wonderful and to me, this is a vacation!

Buena Vista Bike Fest 2009 : This year's Buena Vista Bike Fest was a chilly, cloudy affair. I was on the road by 6:15 though the event didn't officially start until 7 - I figured I could use a headstart. I wasn't feeling 100% and I think that's reflected in the uninspired pictures here.

Elephant Rock 2009 : The Elephant Rock bike ride and festival took place on Sunday, June 7. Routes included family rides of 7 and 25 miles, an off-road ride of 34 miles, plus a Century and Metric Century route. These photos are from the Metric Century. While not a competition I think a lot of riders on the longer courses were using the event for training, judging by the way they blew by me going up the hills.
